Millennials looking for a credit card...read this now. I know you've seen those ads for that Uber Visa Credit Card . You've gotten the emails, you've seen people pay with it, and it's all over the Uber app. Well, now's the time to learn about why it's by FAR the best credit card for your lifestyle.
I genuinely believe that during lunch on a Friday, a group of Uber employees sat around the table and started talking about what they spend the most money on in a year. "Restaurants! Travel and hotels! Online shopping!" They probably went around a few times until one smart employee blurted out, "hey, there should be a credit card that gives you cash back for those things without an annual fee. Maybe we could make one?" And the Uber credit card was born!
First thing's first: No annual fee. My credit card philosophy is that it's never worth getting a card that you have to pay an annual fee for. The perks usually aren't worth it unless you're spending a lot of money and that's the easiest way to get into credit card debt. That's how you lose the credit card game very quickly. You want to use a card for the things you already do and earn some passive income while doing it! This card checks a lot of the boxes of things you do anyway.
1. Restaurants: if you're reading this blog and you're anything like my wife and I, you love eating out. The experience of trying new things, being with other people, feeling the ambiance; these are a few of our favorites! Why not get 4% back on your bill while enjoying dating night? Yes, you read that right. 4% is the highest cash back you'll see on any card without a fee. This goes such a long way. Oh, and it includes UberEATS here.
2. Travel and hotels: traveling is a priority for most of us. Flight to Europe? All inclusive resort in Mexico? AirBnB for that wedding? Baggage fees because it's not Southwest? This card will give you 3% back on all of these. Additionally, there are no foreign transaction fees when using the card oversees. Christine and I just got back from London and needed no cash at all because we were able to use this card without any issues or extra fees. Makes things so easy!
3. Online shopping: We have an online shopping addiction. I'm not sure if it's because we've gotten too lazy to get up and just go to the store to get those shoes or if it's an efficiency thing but boxes arrive at our place way more often than I'd like to admit. I'll go with the efficiency thing! The Uber credit card gives you 2% back for any online retailers. This category is also where Uber falls in. I don't quite understand why Uber rides are considered online shopping but I'll take it. You also get 2% back on Lyft rides in case you were wondering. The one downside here is it doesn't include paying bills online. I pay all of our bills online so this would have been amazing but unfortunately, it can't be a perfect credit card.
4. Anything else: All the other purchases get you 1% cash back. Hey, it's something!
There are a few other perks with this card like a $100 cash bonus after spending $500 in the first 90 days, which is pretty on par with other no-dee travel rewards cards. Also, a $50 reimbursement on subscriptions like Netflix or Hulu once you reach $5,000 in spending in 1 year. Lastly, if you use this card to pay for your cell phone bill, they will offer you up to $600 in damages worth of cell phone insurance. If you are the kind of person who loses or breaks phones often, this is huge.
The app is simple to use and the points are easy to redeem for cash back, statement credits, Uber credits, or gift cards. Most people wonder if you have to redeem your points for Uber credits but in reality the value is actually the same regardless of category for this card. At the end of the day, this is an outstanding credit card for many of the luxuries that you might enjoy. I supplement it with a credit card that gets me points on groceries and gas so between the 2, almost all of my purchases work for me and get me some money back! So, are you sold yet?
